PETER GARDNER’S ‘VERDICT’ FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 21ST DECEMBER 1974
City came to life in a more inventive and exciting second half at Maine Road today but were frustrated continually by a rugged Wolves side.
The Blues international trio of Bell, Marsh and Tueart worked extremely hard trying to prise open Wanderers at the back, but this was a game where chances were few and far between.
Twice desperate Wolves scrambled efforts off the line as they battled to contain City, unbeaten at home this season. But there were anxious moments for City too, as Kindon and Powell went close.
Doyle had to work overtime when City came under pressure. Clarke made some fine interceptions with Corrigan pulling out the stops with a couple of useful saves.
The City effort never flagged, particularly in the second half, when they patched up early errors when conceding possession too often and too easily.
Despite the brilliance of Marsh, who had a superb game, City could do no better than a goalless draw dropping only their second home point in 12 matches.
