It was a gritty performance by Joe Royles men against the Premiership’s high flying Rams which gives them a good chance to progress at Maine Road in the 2nd leg.
Derby took an early lead however City never looked like rolling over and after Shaun Goater’s 14th minute effort was ruled offside, the inform Danny Allsopp stepped up to the plate and scored City’s equaliser with a magnificent overhead effort.
Jamie Pollock was sent off in the second half and but City hung on thanks to some great saves by Nicky Weaver.
