A REPORT FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 8TH MAY 1975
Scottish international Asa Hartford and goalkeeper Joe Corrigan were Manchester City’s heroes in the 1-0 victory over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in a friendly match here last night.
Hartford scored the only goal in the first half and Corrigan, who ended last season with a remarkable display of consistency, saved a second half penalty as the enthusiastic home side tried to get on top.
City were a big attraction with a crowd of more than 30,000 in the National Stadium. However, the heat clearly troubled the Blues in the second half, manager Tony Book pushed on teenager Tony Henry for his first taste of senior football, replacing Gerrard Keegan.
Jeff Clarke also came on in place of Barney Daniels as the home side eagerly pressed forward. They were finally rewarded when a City defender pulled down an opponent, but Corrigan saved the 64th minute penalty from Otubusin.
