It looked like goalkeeper Harry Morton’s debut would end in defeat at Maine Road in November 1931, with Villa three goals down 15 minutes from time. Tommy Smart then converted a penalty and Pongo Waring scored twice in two minutes to give Villa a share of the points. All six goals came in the second half.
