MATCH REPORT FROM THE IRISH INDEPENDANT 2ND NOVEMBER 1993
Revitalised West Ham, the Premiership’s lowest scoring team, hit three goals in a League match for the first time this season to send Manchester City spinning to only their second defeat in 11 games under Brian Horton.
Having hit the target six times in a dozen previous League outings, the Hammers grabbed two goals in the first half hour through David Burrows and a Lee Chapman cracker and then Matthew Holmes fired home a spectacular 25-yarder 20 minutes from the end.
Keith Curle’s late penalty reply was scant consolation for City who were outclassed by Hammers.
A major factor in West Ham’s performance was the sound form of fit-again veteran Alvin Martin, making his Premier League debut at the age of 35, who didn’t give Niall Quinn a look in.
