Manchester City succeeded without really trying in a game of tip-tap with Sunderland on Saturday. Their lowest crowd at Maine Road for 20 months saw two teams who seemed neither to know nor to care what entertainment means.
Neil Young scored the only goal two minutes from the end and the partisans who found voice enough to cheer deserved congratulations. Extreme boredom usually sends people to sleep.
