MATCH REPORT FROM THE MACHESTER CITY OFFICIAL HANDBOOK 1994/95
The match came just two days after a tough League draw with Oldham Athletic. And with torrential rain making the Elm Park pitch heavy with mud, City knew Reading would fancy their chances. City boss, Brian Horton, was aware that if the tie went into extra time it would favour the home side because of City’s heavy work load over the past few days, coupled with the long journey for the second leg.
Steve Lomas, playing in only his second full game, gave City the boost that was needed when he drilled home his first senior goal for the club just before half-time. But three minutes into the second half the advantage was when Jimmy Quinn snatched Reading’s equaliser. As extra time loomed and Reading pressed for the winner it was City’s Niall Quinn who stole the show with a looping header eight minutes from time. That secured victory.
