… City should still have beaten just about the worst side in the First Division. They created many chances, Rodney Marsh missing the best one of all when he shot outside with only goalkeeper Kevin Keelan to beat.
It was Keelan in fact, who stood between the Blues and an avalanche of goals, his handling was superb and a flick over the bar from a Denis Leman shot was particularly brilliant.
Despite his miss, Marsh looked City’s most complete player. He sprayed the ball about, opening gaps and leaving Norwich vulnerable at the back.
But the killer touch is still missing. City worked tremendously hard in midfield where Tony Towers again lifted his game after Norwich had threatened to take command with a seventh minute goal from Ted MacDougall.
With a more driving effort from Colin Bell, City never looked in danger of losing from that point.
The subtlety of Marsh and Law left Norwich struggling. Frank Carrodus played well, too, and Colin Barrett gave a display that could make him a permanent fixture at right back.
