MILLWALL away fa cup replay 1989 to 90 action

Millwall’s biggest attendance of the season packed The Den full of confidence following their team’s performance at Maine Road three days earlier when they had held City to a goalless draw.
Despite their relegation problems Millwall opened with a series of surging attacks in which Colin Hendry was again outstanding at the heart of the City defence.
Hendry stamped out the threat posed by Millwall’s giant Republic of Ireland striker, Tony Cascarino, but he couldn’t prevent the hammer blow from Carter which gave Millwall an18th minute lead.
As time ticked away, the Blues appeared to be heading for defeat. But the big blonde Scot had other designs on the issue. Ten minutes from time, left back Andy Hinchcliffe floated a free kick to the Lion’s penalty area and Hendry burst through to head home the City equaliser.
Extra time produced deadlock but there was more drama when City lost the toss for choice of venue in the second replay, and as the Blues knew, they had to start all over again the following week in London in the Lion’s Den.
