Francis Lee wrapped up City’s successful season with a goal to remember in a dull game.
Joe Corrigan, City’s understudy goalkeeper, started the move for the goal when he threw the ball accurately to Mike Summerbee in the 49th minute. Summerbee to Colin Bell, then to Lee. Although Ian Ross gave vain chase and ’keeper Tommy Lawrence raced out, ‘Franny’ gleefully flicked the ball home.
Corrigan, who made his League debut two months earlier, impressed with some fine saves, particularly one from substitute Bobby Graham. Another came when he pounced on a ball from Roger Hunt.
