REPORT FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 22ND JANUARY 1975
Manchester City beat an Israel Select side 2-0 in Tel-Aviv with a goal in each half of a disappointing game.
City on their first visit to soccer-mad Israel, won without extending themselves against an extremely disappointing home team who were weak up front.
The Israelis had the edge in the first 20 minutes, but fell away completely in the second half,
City’s opening goal came after 26 minutes when Israeli goalkeeper Yossie Sorinov punched out instead of collecting a shot from Joe Royle. The ball went to Mike Summerbee, whose angled shot was diverted into the net by Mike Bello.
City looked a vastly better side in the second half but, to the great disappointment of the crowd, gave only glimpses of their potential.
… Henson hit the decisive goal after 65 minutes with a neatly taken opportunist effort. He drove a low shot into the corner of the net from nearly 20 yards.
