The last game of the season saw Aston Villa take both points from a Maine Road encounter. Deyna opened the scoring, leaving defenders trailing. Villa‘s first in 52 minutes resulted from Cropley’s diving header. Deyna popped up again with a banana free-kick to make it 2-1, but Mortimer wiped that one out in the 72nd minute. Then John Deehan grabbed the winner with15 minutes left.
