JOHN MADDOCKS WRITING IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 24TH FEBRUARY 1990
Arsenal gained a 1-1 draw when they visited us on 18th February, making it four consecutive draws against the Gunners at home. Yet few there begrudged the Londoners their point as they contributed mightily to the entertainment on the night as both teams overcame dreadful conditions. The rain poured down, the pitch thawed out, and mud made the going very heavy indeed.
Frank Carrodus made his City debut and he impressed with his running and stamina despite his slight frame, but it was the Blues’ defence that carried the day. Oakes and Doyle were their usual immaculate selves and there was praise also for Mann who worked tirelessly.
Doyle and Bell combined neatly to set up Bowyer for our opener before half-time, the youngster giving Wilson no chance with a hook-shot, and it looked like we were going to get both points until four minutes from the end when a Sammels centre found Graham who beat Mulhearn from close range.

 FRANK CARRODUS REMEMBERS HIS DEBUT
“I think Mike Summerbee was injured so I was thrown in at the deep end for a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in February 1970. I know I didn’t let myself down and I think I had a decent game but in the weeks before I don’t believe I ever thought I’d be able to get into the team. I remember looking around and thinking about the star men at the Club and I know it was a great feeling to even be considered part of that squad. Funnily enough the week of my debut I also had to sit my HND exams so there was a lot for me to think about at the time.”
