City had failed to score in their last two home games, and although they could only muster one against West Brom, it was enough to take both points, and what a goal it was, scored by Dennis Tueart just ten minutes into the game, and with the Baggies having conceded seven goals the last time on their travels, the Maine Road faithful were hoping for more goals other than Tueart’s stunning effort.
City had most of the play with young Gary Owen the star in midfield, however Kidd and Royle are going through barren spells at the moment, and West Brom had a new striker in David Cross. making his debut after a £120,000 move from Coventry, and he really should have grabbed a point for West Brom ten minutes into the second half, Martin crossed from the right, and with Cross unmarked, he inexplicably smashed the ball over the bar.
So to Tueart’s goal: Hartford found the swift winger in his own half, and Tueart ran clear, all of 40 yards before a superb shot that Osborne had no chance of saving.
