MATCH REPORT FROM THE SUNDAY TRIBUNE 3RD JANUARY 1993
Manchester City breathed a giant sigh of relief when Mike Sheron scored the 73rd minute equaliser which gave them a draw against Second Division Reading.
Sheron raced on to Garry Flitcroft’s excellent through ball to plant his shot into the Reading net off the body of goalkeeper Steve Francis from 12 yards.
City had been rocked two minutes into injury time of the first half when Reading took the lead. Reading striker Jimmy Quinn’s leap on the edge of the City box put off the home defenders as he went up for Jamie Lambert’s cross. The ball fell to Scott Taylor and he scored with a superb dipping shot from the edge of the penalty area.
City created more chances in a game which well-organised Reading kept tight. Francis made a brilliant save in the 14th minute when he flung himself across goal to tip behind a 25 yard shot from Irish striker Niall Quinn.
