REPORT FROM THE MANCHESTER CITY HANDBOOK 1993/94
Two league defeats without scoring reflected City’s dip in form and continued in this game when the Blues fired blanks for the third home match in a row.
Rovers … set their stall out for a draw in this dour encounter which was high on effort but lacking in goal mouth incident. So three successive blank sheets underlined City’s lack of fire power and was not the hat-trick Peter Reid had been looking for.
Rovers left Maine Road understandably confident they could do better in the return leg at home. For City, the thought of a difficult
second match, hemmed in at crowded Twerton Park, the home of Bath City which was loaned to Rovers, was clearly a daunting prospect.
