FROM THE SOUTH WALES ECHO 25TH AUGUST 1993
Niall Quinn led an angry ‘player back-lash’ after an attempt to make them the scapegoats for the Manchester City cisis.
As fans demonstrated against chairman Peter Swales after the 2-0 Maine Road defeat by Blackburn which leaves the club with just one point from four games, new general manager John Maddock pointed the finger straight at Peter Reid’s players.
“What happened tonight isn’t good enough, it’s as simple as that. I’m talking about the performance, the spirit,” said Maddock.
Spokesman Quinn, the Irish striker who played despite being less than 100% fit, said: “It’s disappointing to listen to that. We’re trying 100% and, as the manager says, it’s hard work which will turn it around.”
