Chelsea were caught with their pants down but Dave Beasant pulled them up by their elastic.
Twice he saved superbly from Sheron as City piled forward looking for the winner they deserved.
Yet on a goalless afternoon, the main talking point was Chelsea’s shorts. Wise, Le Saux and Stuart, had to do an involuntary striptease on the touchline. And Stuart put his on the wrong way round.

Chelsea’s assistant boss Stan Ternent said: “They’re new shorts but the elastic kept snapping.”
The visitors’ team was down to the bare bones. Knocked out of the FA Cup and having sold three players in midweek, they were without the injured Elliott and the suspended Sinclair and Townsend.
White could have had a hat-trick. Myers cleared one shot off the line and Beasant saved another with his feet. A third chance he dragged across goal.
Chelsea’s best effort was a crunching volley by Le Saux which fizzed off the top of the bar, although Wise and Jones both had shots blocked.
