MATCH REPORT FROM THE SUNDAY WORLD (DUBLIN) 19TH JANUARY 1992
David White’s 14th goal of the season ended a miserable afternoon for Manchester City as they narrowly overcame lowly Coventry at Maine Road, White struck after 51 minutes with his side’s first shot on target in the game. But he took the goal superbly, collecting a through ball from Mike Sheron before drilling his shot past Steve Ogrizovic.
But it took a wonder save from City keeper Tony Coton two minutes after the goal to keep the home side in front.
Coventry striker Robert Rosario was the unlucky man as he picked up a loose ball inside the six-yard box and swept his shot goalwards only to see Coton foil him one-handed.
But they were the only two real incidents in a dreadful match watched by just over 23,000 fans. although referee Michael Peck was involved himself a few minutes from time.
The unfortunate official had to receive attention after being struck in the face by the ball, but he managed to recover and carry on despite a bloody nose.
