Tricky Winger Michael Hughes conjured up his first goal for Manchester City and the timing couldn’t have been better for the Northern Ireland youngster.
It gave Championship chasing City a vital win and Northern Ireland boss Billy Bingham was watching.
Bingham may now be tempted to call up the talented 20 year old.
Hughes knocked the ball home with 14 minutes to go after Niall Quinn’s shot hit a post.
The goal eased city’s frayed nerves after old boy Brian Gayle had frightened them. Defender Gayle cancelled out Mike Sheron’s opener with a towering 33rd minute header.
City regained the lead when Quinn nodding home three minutes later, but Gayle levelled again with another powerful header.
