FROM PAUL HINCE’S REPORT IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK 14TH SEPTEMBER 1991
Manchester City were locked in a ding-dong struggle for supremacy against a classy and dangerous Sheffield, Wednesday side at Maine Road today.
The Blues began the match like a house on fire and were desperately unlucky not to take the lead when David White’s scorching drive bounced back into play off the crossbar.
But the Owls had clearly sharpened their talons for their visit to Manchester, with City Keeper Tony Coton forced to pull off a series of fine saves to keep the Yorkshiremen at bay.
… City lived dangerously once too often as Wednesday surged forward after 74 minutes to snatch the lead.
Watson raced down the right before whipping over a low centre which Coton could only Parry. For once luck favoured, Wednesday. The ball fell to the feet of Williams who tapped his shot into the unguarded net.
