FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 21ST APRIL 1990
We celebrated the taming of Wolves with the blasting of Bristol City. Robinson replaced the injured Reeves for his first appearance in nine games and marked his return by establishing our lead after 12 minutes, the provider being Henry. Then Nicky Reid galloped 40 yards and Cashley could only block his drive, the ball being netted by Deyna. A third Blues strike came before the break after Henry and Deyna perfected a sweet movement to provide Tueart with a headed chance.
It was the woodwork, the ‘keeper, and sloppy finishing which prevented further City goals after the interval, and Bristol pulled one back with 20 minutes left, Rodgers heading in a Merrick free-kick.
Now Manchester City looked safe, but Bristol City looked virtually doomed.
