Dennis Tueart spared Manchester City embarrassment with goals in the 77th and 88th minutes from Hutchison crosses in the 3-1 defeat of Northampton at Maine Road last night.
McDonald had put City ahead in the 42nd minute, but Mahoney, on loan from Fulham, equalised with a 30 yard lob.
It then took a stupendous save from Joe Corrigan to keep out a Mahoney header to prevent the Fourth Division side going ahead.
