Axed Skipper Steve Redmond emerged the defensive hero as Manchester City drew 0-0 with Faaberg,
The Blues completed their six match Norwegian pre-season Tour with a third successive draw.
And Redmond’s brave 80th minute goal-line save kept the Blues’ unbeaten record intact against a gritty local Second Division side who gave them a final stiff workout before today’s return home to complete preparation for the big First Division comeback in a fortnight.
Ex-Captain Courageous Redmond was injured in the process damaging his ribs when colliding with the foot of a post as he flung himself full-length to keep out a low shot by Olav Monshaugen, Who had the net at his Mercy.
It enabled Redmond to complete what for him had otherwise been a near-disastrous trip, on a high note. He had earlier struggled for form and consistency and lost the job as team captain to boot.
But Redmond revealed the right character to shake off those blows, leaving manager Machin claiming: “His form in the last two games in particular has been impressive. I have been delighted at his response.”
… City again failed to score for the second successive match, although they still created a host of chances with both the outstanding Gary Megson and Ian Bishop moving forward confidently from midfield into striking positions.
David Oldfield was denied his first goal of the tour, when Ludicrously flagged up for offside, as City played some excellent second half football,
Trevor Morley, too, missed at least a couple of fine chances.
