There was no joy for third-placed Manchester City at Selhurst Park.
Wimbledon got off to a great start with Alan Cork crossing from the right flank for John Fashanu to head home at the far post in the second minute.
Right on half-time Robbie Earle produced a crucial second.
Mike Sheron, who went on as substitute after half-time, pulled a goal back in the 56th minute.
