The first of four meetings in the season against the Londoners, two in this competition and two in the league, was, in the event, the least attractive and the only one without a goal.
Rangers came to Maine Road, it appeared, with a mission to hold what they started with and found City unable to unlock their negative approach much to the frustration of the fans.
Colin Hendry, the two-goal hero of the previous week’s Zenith Cup action in Sheffield, was sent on with ten minutes left, but even he
