MATCH REPORT FROM THE IRISH INDEPENDANT 27TH AUGUST 1992
Terry Phelan’s move to Manchester City brought an immediate change of fortune for the Maine Road club.
The Irish International made a winning debut last night as City moved off the bottom of the League and denied Norwich the chance to go top.
Two goals by David White and a third from Steve McMahon gave City their first win of the season as Norwich suffered their first defeat.
White opened the scoring In the dying seconds of the first half, racing onto a through-ball from Niall Quinn To drill in a shot from the edge of the box.
Norwich equalised after 58 minutes thanks to their Manchester City connection.

David Phillips curled in a corner and Gary Megson, who moved to Norwich from Maine Road on a free transfer in the close season, headed home.
However, City regained the lead ten minutes from time.
Michel Vonk’s long clearance was headed down by Quinn in the Norwich box and White scored with a low shot from ten yards out.
White turned goal-maker in the last minute when his cross from the right was superbly smashed home by McMahon from 12 yards out.
City Player-manager Peter Reid said of City captain Keith Curle: “Curle was magnificent. With the new back-pass rule, you need people at the back with pace and he personified that tonight.”
Phelan, who played with Curle at Wimbledon, also joined in the praise saying: “That is the best I have seen Keith play.”
