Manchester City goalkeeper Andy Dibble was carried off with a knee injury which soured his sides comfortable win over the League of Ireland in Dublin last night.
Dibble, playing because first choice Tony Coton was unable to travel for this triangular tournament at Tolka Park, was injured in an accidental collision with David Tilson, 15 minutes from the end.
It was an unwanted headache for manager Peter Reid, who saw his side see off the part-timers with two goals from Ade Mike and another by Gary Flickroft.
City now go into today’s tournament decider against Celtic, who recorded a much more convincing 5-0 victory over the League on Friday night.
But neither Dibble nor striker Niall Quinn, who limped off after half an hour with a calf strain, is likely to figure
City went ahead after 38 minutes when Mike, surrounded by four defenders, cheekily chipped the ball over goalkeeper Dermot O’Neil from eight yards.
A minute before the interval Flitcroft took advantage of hesitancy in the home defence to steer the ball home from close range.
Alan Byrne headed against a post for the league 10 minutes from time, but Mike grabbed his second goal in the dying seconds after winning a challenge with substitute keeper Alan Kane.
A bonus for Reid was a more than satisfactory debut for new Dutch signing, Michel Vonk.
