RICHARD NORTH WRITING IN THE SUNDAY PEOPLE 12TH JANUARY 1992
The Palace crowd roared “cheat” at ref Roger Wiseman, after a late controversial penalty gave Manchester City a point.
And while they daren’t go that far, the Palace players were not too kindly disposed towards the Boreham Wood official either.
With 11 minutes left Wiseman reckoned Palace Centre half Young had pushed Irish Striker Quinn, and Curle became City’s sixth penalty taker of the season.
But Palace assistant manager Alan Smith said: “Eric said he didn’t touch Quinn and he’s such an honest lad we have to believe him. We are not bleeding about it but all the players seemed genuinely surprised when he pointed to the spot.”
Bright had given Palace the lead, but they never looked sure of holding it. Their helter-skelter style created a few chances With Gabbiadini twice going close, but they were not as wasteful in front of goal as City.
