MATCH REPORT FROM THE 1992/93 MANCHESTER CITY OFFICIAL HANDBOOK
Homeless Chester played the return leg at Stockport County’s Edgley Park ground, knowing it was a daunting task to start two goals down to top flight opponents. They needed to score to give themselves real hope and they responded accordingly, but again failed to cash in on a couple of clear-cut chances.
Then Clive Allen, making his first start of the season, illustrated his goal-scoring instinct with a decisive finish just before half-time which took the steam out of Chester. On the hour Mike Sheron hit his second goal in three days to close the door on any possibility of a Chester revival, and the job was completed when Mark Brennan’s left foot rocket made it another three, a 6-1 cushion overall, with 21 minutes left.
