DAVID WHITE SCORES CITY’S SECOND

City started the match in third place in the League, a position that owed itself to their excellent home form, so the Maine Road crowd were anticipating another victory and an assault on the Division One summit.
McMahon created both City’s goals, Peter Reid commenting: “Those were two quality goals, and two quality finishes.”
David Brightwell made his debut for the Blues and was joined by brother Ian in the 68th minute, who came off the bench to replace Michael Hughes, and so the siblings became the first brothers to play together for City since the Futchers in the 70’s.
The Blues started at a great pace, and took the lead after just four minutes. McMahon produced a glorious chip into the path of Niall Quinn, who smashed a right foot volley past Sealey. It ended a two month goal drought for the big Irish forward.
From that moment forward Villa made it very difficult for their hosts, as the game became a very entertaining end to end battle, and it wasn’t until the 75th minute before City were sure of their fifth home win on the trot. McMahon again played a lovely through ball into White’s path, who calmly rolled the ball past Sealey for his 18th goal of the season.
