JOHN MADDOCKS WRITING IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 25TH OCTOBER 1989 Wolves were the next visitors to Maine Road to return home pointless. Lee's enforced absence provided a rare opportunity for Jimmy Mundy in the City attack, and the youngster's boisterous play caused Wanderers more than a few problems. The real stars of the afternoon were Summerbee and ex-Blue Wagstaffe. They gave Parkin and Book a thorough testing throughout the 90 minutes. Dougan, a muted striker on the verge of a disciplinary hearing, made little of Wagstaffe's supply line, while Summerbee forged some intricate attacking links with Bell and Young. Doyle again played a blinder, his tackling and passing being of the highest quality. Wolves on the other hand, were too reliant on the illegal side of dispossessing opponents, and conceded a number of free-kicks. The referees punished one not-so-crafty offence by awarding a penalty. Mundy was the victim of a push in the back, Doyle was the executioner. The single goal was enough.
