It was a hollow victory for City as Geert de Vlieger was carried off in the second half, a ruptured Achilles tendon means he will miss a good part of the season and leaves Kevin Keegan looking urgently for an experienced backup keeper to David James. David Sommeil also suffered a calf muscle injury which means he may miss the start of the season.
