FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 15TH SEPTEMBER 1979 City were never in with a chance at West Brom and they were on the receiving end of a brilliant performance from Gary Owen, the man the Blues rejected from Maine Road. Ally Brown put the first nail in City's coffin after only 12 minutes and Owen himself claimed the second after 35 minutes. And with the Blues looking like a ragged bunch of part-timers, sub Kevin Summerfield slotted home the third goal after 67 minutes. England winger Peter Barnes who went to West Brom with Owen, was pulled off at the interval, but that was little consolation for outplayed City who went 4-0 down after 78 minutes.
