TWO GOALS FOR DAVID WHITE

FROM THE PRESS BOX

TAKEN FROM THE IRISH INDEPENDANT 18TH NOVEMBER 1987 City booked their place in the last eight by beating First Division strugglers Watford at Maine Road. City took the lead through David White after 17 minutes, but Watford equalised after 61 minutes when Malcolm Allen's powerful shot bounced off the crossbar, the linesman ruling the ball had crossed the line. Moments later Watford nearly snatched the lead when Gary Porter hit the bar, but it was City who went back in front after 63 minutes when White scored his second. City wrapped it up with nine minutes to go, Paul Stewart scoring at the second attempt from the penalty spot after Warren Sterling was adjudged to have handled. Tony Coton saved Stewart's kick but he followed up to score from the rebound.
