FROM THE PRESS BOX

REPORT FROM THE SUNDAY WORLD (DUBLIN) 5TH MARCH 1989 Watford dashed Manchester City's hopes of going to the top of Division Two when they ended their nine game unbeaten League run at Vicarage Road. A 32nd minute goal from Welsh under-21 International Iwan Roberts was enough to give Watford their first victory in seven games. Glyn Hodges lobbed the ball into the City box and Roberts caught the defence napping by rising unchallenged to head his fourth goal of the season. City poured forward in the closing 20 minutes but could not break through. David White had a shot cleared off the line in the 72nd minute and Watford goalkeeper Tony Coton made excellent Saves from Wayne Biggins and Brian Gayle. And Watford could have wrapped the game up as City left Gaps at the back, Hodges hit the bar with a 30 yard drive in the 74th minute and Roberts ballooned the ball over after being put clear by Hodges 10 minutes from the end.
