FROM THE PRESS BOX

PETER GARDNER'S 'VERDICT' FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL Francis Lee was sent off in the 68th minute of a Bramall Lane clash that was spoiled by weak refereeing. The official lost control the minute he denied the Blues what was a clear first half penalty. The outcome was that for long periods too many players were intent on kicking lumps out of each other, in this nasty, niggling affair, four players were booked in addition to the dismissal of Lee. City were the more competent team throughout but Colin Bell's 12th minute goal was cancelled out by Alan Woodward, ten minutes from half-time. Bell was always in the thick of the action, while Willie Donachie and Tony Book were again sound in City's commanding back four. But there was neither enough fire nor finish in City's attack to trouble a side who had taken only one point from their previous seven games.
