PETER GARDNER WRITING IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 28TH JULY 1989 ... City recovered from the shock of going a goal down after just 50 seconds to beat Sandefjords Select 3-2 last night, with Trevor Morley scoring twice after Gary Megson had equalised. City took up their second successive tour victory although it took another late strike to finally polish off a side selected from the local Third, Fourth, and Fifth Divisions. It took time to recover from the early blow, with Machin, employing new £1M striker Clive Allen, whose last gasp goal gave the side victory in the opening match against Ashkhim as the loan front runner with five men in midfield. It was a line-up favoured by Tottenham when Alan was there but City reverted to 4-4-2 after the break.
