Mention the words 'Manchester City' to Gary Crosby and he immediately knows which way the conversation is going to turn - towards his 'controversial goal'. It's almost 10 months since Crosby appeared from nowhere to cheekily head the ball out of Andy Dibble's outstretched right hand as he prepared to clear upfield and calmly slotted the ball home for the only goal of the game.

Crosby is still shadowed by the memory and admits "In hindsight it was controversial, but it was just one of those things that football throws up every so often" He continues "It wasn't a premeditated thing. It was a total split second, spur of the moment incident and I hope no-one connected with Manchester City still harbours any bad feelings about it". Dibble certainly took it in good heart eventually and a couple of months later donated the right hand glove he wore on that infamous day to an auction in aid of goalkeeper Steve Sutton's testimonial fund.
