FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 1ST MAY 1989 City made six changes from the side that had lost to Middlesbrough and could have gone behind early on when the sides met again just one week later in the return fixture. Cochrane and Charlie Bell both had chances to give the visitors the lead, but then City hit back and effective work by Deyna and Channon forced Platt to make some smart saves. Colin Bell almost gave us the lead with a powerful drive just after the break, but it was Deyna who notched the only goal of the game in 52 minutes. Silkman and Channon carved a way through the 'Boro defence and Deyna ran through to score easily.
