In goal for City was famous England keeper Frank Swift. Even he was beaten by a shot from Johnny Kelly, and, although the muddy ground slowed down the ball it still appeared to be at least a couple of feet over the line when the keeper pulled it back. Surprisingly, the referee, a certain Mr Meadows, waved play on, and the Reds could hardly believe it.
