THE MOMENT KENNY CLEMENTS TRAGICALLY BREAKS HIS LEG

FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 26TH NOVEMBER 1988 The Blues were in a steady decline, the game against Ipswich on 25th November being their sixth successive League match without a win. ... The match was notable for the League baptism of Kazimierz Deyna, the Polish national captain, for whom City had paid £130,000 to Legia Warsaw. Bobby Robson's Ipswich played splendid, fast football, and City's task was made harder when Clements was carried off early on with a broken leg. Gates and Mariner should have given the visitors a commanding interval lead. It was Gates who opened the scoring, Talbot got a second in the 75th minute, and Hartford grabbed a consolation goal.
