FROM THE PRESS BOX

FROM A REPORT IN THE ABERDEEN PRESS AND JOURNAL 9TH AUGUST 1979 Hearts emerged bottom with one point from the Skol tourney but in their final match, a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, they were every bit as good, or as bad, as the opposition. City, a side with a Bank of England reputation, never got it together and showed no inclination to make a reasonably entertaining spectacle of it. Their big names, including £750,000 striker Mick Robinson, who tried hard to justify his price tag, were jeered most of the way and Hearts, had they snapped up glorious chances and with less of the play, should have been three up at the interval. Robertson and O'Connor were the sinners, then Liddell hit a post. Robinson crashed a great 20 yarder against the bar in 54 minutes and Willie Gibson struck wood in 78 minutes. Fraser's angular drive in 84 minutes beat MacRae and two minutes later Mike Channon hit a scrambled equaliser.
