FRANCIS LEE SCORES TO GRAB THE POINTS FOR CITY

The match at the Baseball Ground was more about City's professional defensive display rather than their attack which was unusually blunted and frustrated, apart from a wonderful goal in the second half. Mike Doyle was the man of the match, marshalling the defense which was also weakened by an ankle injury early in the first half to Tommy Booth, who after a long period of treatment off the field returned to the play, but clearly struggling for the rest of the match. 

As far as Derby were concerned they had a few chances in the first half when they managed to overcome City's back line, but first Joe Corrigan saved form a Hector shot and then minutes later thwarted a Durban attempt. It was Corrigan who initially started the move to City's sensational winning goal in the second half. A long punch out from the City custodian to break up a Derby attack, landed at Mike Summerbee's feet on the edge of his own area, and he set off on a mazy 90 yard run in5to the Ram's box, and then picked out a pass to Francis Lee,who made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net.
