Defeat for FA Cup semi-finalists, Manchester City, their first reverse since Boxing Day. They went down at Burnley in spite of the incentive of a 30 minute goal from Colin Bell. Eighteen year old Dave Thomas, of West Auckland, brought on as a substitute when Fred Smith was hurt, equalised just on half-time, and Merrington got the winner again after good work by Thomas.
