FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 4TH OCTOBER 1984 Then it was off to Blackpool in midweek for the Milk Cup second leg. Billy McNeill was hit by an egg before the start which set the mood for a rather ugly evening. Blackpool took no prisoners. Kinsey and Cunnigham were early victims of their purposeful approach, both being scythed down in the first minute. Greenall, Davies and Windridge were first-half name-jottings in the referee's book; Reid followed them after the break. The first goal came from Smith (31 mins.) off a post, set up by Power who beat the offside trap. Britton equalised for the Seasiders (37 mins.) from close range, but Williams made up for'this lapse with four great saves, two each side of the break. Tolmie came on as a substitute for the injured Kinsey, ten minutes into the second half and proceeded to score two further City goals in the final five minutes, thus ensuring a deserved 7-3 aggregate win, but City were left with injury worries about May, Kinsey and Cunningham.
