It was the "6-pointer" between Blackburn Rovers (top) and City (2nd) at Ewood Park. Hero of the day for City was Paul Power, a real inspiration in midfield, covering miles up and down the left-hand side ls he urged the Blues on. Up to the only goal, Gennoe had stood between City and a heavy Rovers defeat, thwarting Kinsey (twice) and Melrose. But Power decided that this state of affairs had gone on long enough. After 38 minutes he latched onto a long ball from Smith, left Branagan for dead, and crossed. Keeley's mis-kick supplied Kinsey and the “Mickey Mouse" goal from 3 yards was enough to take the points-—and put City on top. Baker's shoulder went again, thus rendering his imminent suspension irrelevant, Tolmie stepping in, and the Blues survived a late rally in which Garner hit the bar.
