REPORT FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 22ND APRIL 1989 Manchester City's promotion bid faltered at Maine Road yet again. They went down 2-1 to Barnsley after a bizarre own-goal by Paul Cooper when Steve Agnew's 11th minute shot hit the post and cannoned off the City keeper into the net. Malcolm Shotton scored the second after 67 minutes but Paul Lake scored for City after 73 minutes.
