PETER GARDNERS 'VERDICT' FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 4TH SEPTEMBER 1976 City took a second half pounding at Highbury where Joe Corrigan was in superb form with a string of magnificent saves. But the Blues hit back strongly and Jimmy Rimmer also made excellent saves. Doyle did a first-class job in curbing Malcolm MacDonald. In fact, the entire defence earned top rating for a backs-to-the-wall battle. Asa Hartford had an improved game and some positive flanking runs by Jim Conway saw the Blues in with a chance right until the death. It was a solid all-round display by City to pick themselves up after the disastrous midweek League Cup defeat at Villa Park...
