FROM A JOHN MADDOCKS ARTICLE, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 24TH FEBRUARY 1990
It was important for City to bounce back after the shock Carlisle defeat and happily they rose to the occasion in their next game a fortnight later. Without Clive Wilson, down with his mystery virus, reorganisation restored McNab to midfield for his first League game since November for the visit here of Brighton.
lt was McNab (signed from the Seagulls in July 1983) and Baker who contrived a pathway to goal for our opener in the 2-0 win. The ball fell to Smith, also ex-Brighton, and his left-foot drive left Moseley stranded. Two minutes after the interval, Tolmie and Melrose combined to put Phillips through to score his 4th goal in as many games.
We should have added to the scoreline, both Tolmie and May hitting the woodwork while at the other end, it was Brighton’s skipper,
midfielder Danny Wilson, who provided the major threats to Alex Williams. The only real worry of the day was Baker’s booking which took him over the limit.
